WSCC held an event where people could view the proposals for B2144 Oving Road and speak to members of the project team. The event took place on Thursday 20 October 2022 at Portfield Primary Academy.

WSCC are seeking your views on the designs for Oving Road. The consultation is open until 11:59pm on 14 November 2022. They say “Your feedback will help us to shape further development of the designs and inform our decision on how to take the proposals forward”.

Two options are being put forward:

• Option 1 is a shared use pavement scheme. ChiCycle agree with the Department for Transport that shared pavements are inappropriate of residential urban streets such as Oving Road.
• Option 2 would introduce short lengths of advisory cycle lane along some of the length of Oving Road and involves making the western end of Oving road into a one way street.

The snip shown below from an artists impression highlights some of the schemes shortcomings. The department of transport advise that crossings that are not set back significantly from the mouths of a junction are suitable for one way cycle traffic only.
