Watch our first Chichester area Bike Bus in action, on a minute and a half of video compiled by James Green of Chichester District Cycle Forum.

As our first Bike Bus in this area is in Bosham, it’s all about stopping the cars on the main A259 for long enough to cross safely. This takes adult volunteers to make this happen, as the parents are looking out their own children.  Then the experienced cyclists ride on the road-side of our primary school charges, along Waltons Lane, to keep them safe enough to manage the seven minute cycle to school.

Some of these 4 year old legs find it tough, as they are trying to keep up with the 9 years olds with much longer legs and geared bikes! However putting the smallest children towards the front makes it easier not to split the ‘bus’!

On reaching Bosham Primary School, we are usually greeted by the caretaker, who opens the gate to the bike sheds at the back of the school down School Lane. There’s time for a quick snack and a sticker for everyone who takes part. Then all who is staying for the day are ushered into school. It’s job done by 8.45am, ready to ride home, or stop off for a coffee at The Crate.

We meet on Friday mornings and would welcome one more adult helper. If it could be you, then contact Jenny on 01243 699843
