Critical look at Paul Wreyford’s Alternative Access Road link proposal for Planning Application 22/01485/OUTEIA

Critical look at Paul Wreyford’s Alternative Access Road link proposal for Planning Application 22/01485/OUTEIA

Update ChiCycle have reworked Jubb drawing No SK_C019 to show a modified version of Option2 (the Paul Wreyford Concept). We have some doubts about the design because it may increase congestion for motor-vehicle users but it does leave a viable/direct/convenient cycle and walking route intact along Westgate. The motor traffic figures the developers rely on to justify their choice of Option1A, require a substantial modal shift towards walking and cycling. This is not a realistic expectation because the Option1A solution…

Chichester City Council Recommend Consideration of Alternative Transport Solutions for Connecting New West of Chichester Development onto A27 is now to be Considered

Chichester City Council Recommend Consideration of Alternative Transport Solutions for Connecting New West of Chichester Development onto A27 is now to be Considered

Chichester City Council met for a Special Meeting of the Planning and Conservation Committee held on 28 July 2022. This was to discuss planning application 22/01485/OUTEIA It was noted that National Highways are now concerned about the developments impact on the Strategic Road Network (SRN). Phase2 West of Chichester Outline Application Disregards Walking and Cycling National Standards

Phase2 West of Chichester Outline Application Disregards Walking and Cycling National Standards

Although the outline application plans include some provisions or walking and cycling, cycle routes to the West of the city will be made unusable or extremely inconvenient to ride at a number of key locations. This will break the connection of National Cycle Route No2 (South Coast Cycle Route) through the west of the city. This will end cycling aa practical, convenient form of transit in the west of Chichester and along the coast to Fishbourne and Bosham. Quiet roads…

Traffic count on Sherborne Rd and Westgate Pavements

Traffic count on Sherborne Rd and Westgate Pavements

On the 25/03/2022 Carley Sitwell sent data she had collected from traffic counts she made on the northern Westgate pavement. Carley collected tremendously useful data that shows pedestrian flows regularly exceed the 300 people per hour maximum considered acceptable for shared use cycle-ways by DfT LTN1/20 guidelines for cycle infrastructure design (paragraph 6.5.7) As student leave Bishop Luffa school in the afternoon, there are high flows or pedestrians, often exceeding 350 people per hour. Over the hour period MONDAY March…
